This summer my parents introduced me to the most amazing antique store that I have ever visited. Rideau Antiques is located south of Smiths Falls, Ontario. To find them drive a few miles west of highway 15 just past Lombardy, Ontario. They have been in business for more than 50 years and have a wide selection of keys, silverware, furniture, glass, china, pottery, clocks, tools, books, woodenware, bottles, prints, lamps, old hardware & collectibles.
This is what it looks like as you are walking to the house. Look closely, it is actually very well organized and there is SOOO much stuff.
Once in the house I was a little overwhelmed until I got my bearings – then I was very excited! Check out all those antique keys on the back of the door in the first photo! I have never seen so many keys with so much character in one place. Then I walked into the next room and there was a mountain of silver tea sets all wrapped up to preserve their beauty. I found some of the most unique and beautiful sugar spoons that I’ve ever seen amongst what seemed like thousands of pieces of silverware. If you read our blog regularly you know that I have a thing about smells. I was so impressed with the organization and cleanliness at Rideau Antiques. I spent most of the time walking from room to room mumbling “I wish Kristi was here….Kristi needs to see this”.
For better photos and descriptions of this Antique Wonderland check out their website: http://www.rideauantiques.net/ and if you have a chance, visit them in person. The owner, Clifford Miller, is so helpful and patient and knows where each and every thing is in his store no matter how small.
In the end, I ended up making two trips to Rideau Antiques in a week and drove away with a variety of unique sugar spoons, teeny tiny keys, chandelier crystal and very cool key holes to make jewelry with. I can’t wait to visit them again next summer!
Now it’s your turn – if you have a favorite antique store please tell us about it and how to find it. We love new antiquing opportunities!
